Their story
Diagnosed at about seven while growing up in Nigeria, she has seen care change over nearly five decades. Her interview recognises improvements in pain treatment and specialist services, while describing gaps that remain when a complication takes her beyond haematology into another part of the health system.
Family and faith have helped her through demanding years. As chair of Plasma of Hope, she draws on her own experience to encourage others living with sickle cell and to press for care that listens to patients, follows clinical guidance and understands the whole person.
