Their story

Her account follows the work of managing a long-term condition while also parenting. A crisis can mean urgent treatment and difficult questions about who will care for a child while she is in hospital. She describes having to advocate for herself when pain is doubted or treatment is delayed.

MaryAnne also talks about the strain that illness and stigma can place on mental health. Community support has given her people who understand, and she wants younger patients to know that asking for help is part of looking after themselves.
