Their story

Growing up in Nigeria, Babade learned to manage recurring pain with the help of family and faith. After moving to the UK in 2013, he found specialist care that had not been available to him in the same way before. His interview traces that change while recognising that treatment alone does not erase the long-term effects of the condition.

Complications and surgery have affected his ability to work and the shape of everyday life. Babade speaks about resilience without minimising those losses, and hopes that wider awareness and research will make the path easier for younger people living with sickle cell.
